Black facade for a family house under the Italian sun

The unusual detached family house ‘La Nera’ was built on Via Roma in Castel di Lama, in place of a building from the 1950s. Restrained yet self-confident, it blends into the heterogeneous agglomeration of its surroundings alongside a villa in the neo-liberal style.

The building was not intended to compete with the historic villa, which is why the architects refrained from using sophisticated shapes, materials and colours.

The result is an inconspicuous, albeit surprising, detached house that recedes into the background, not least due to its black facade.

In order to ensure the durability of the colour, even under the Italian sun, a colour was chosen that reflects the sun's rays and keeps the temperature of the insulation layer below 65 degrees. At the same time, the colour pigment is protected from fading so that the building shines in a rich black.
