Residential building ‘House of Bricks’ in Vienna

Historical references in a contemporary form

In the shape of the ‘House of Bricks’, a residential building has been built in Murlingengasse in Vienna that marries the industrial heritage of Meidling with the history of social housing in Vienna to create a new architectural approach. The compact structure translates the language of 19th-century brick architecture into a contemporary urban form focusing on scale, quality of living and energy efficiency.

The facade facing the road is designed with StoBrick glazed brick slips, the colour and texture of which are reminiscent of the historic brick buildings in the surrounding area. Corner brick slips, flush grouting and the consistent colouring of all the components create a calm, homogeneous facade appearance.

Solid, horizontal StoDeco elements subtly structure the facade and eliminate the need for conventional metal fittings – a technically simple, yet consistent design solution that underscores the elegance of the architecture.
