Urban neighbourhood of Vienna by PPAG architects
Diversity and openness
A new urban neighbourhood has been built on a site covering more than 13,000 square metres in south-west Vienna, based on plans by PPAG architects. Designed from the outset to be integrative and inclusive, the Rivus Vivere district exemplifies how the individual needs of residents can be reconciled with urban density. The elevated neighbourhood impresses with its facades designed with white render surfaces, white joint mortar and white clinker brick slips. Seven buildings of varying heights and a series of squares, as well as greenery, stairways and passageways, create a dynamic interplay of space and intimacy.
The diverse, interconnected neighbourhood can be explored on foot in many different ways. Not least because of its liveliness, the car-free complex is a varied place for both residents and passers-by.

A distinctive and highly memorable neighbourhood
Contrast through material mix
The original plan was for a fully plastered, insulated facade. The architects convinced the client to go with a mix of brick slips and render on an EWIS from Sto. The result: a varied facade that only shows the contrast between smooth render surfaces and textured brick slips when you get closer.
